MBO = Management by objectives
The brief definition of a goal is:
A goal is a desired state in the future.
Goals give our actions direction and help us avoid getting sidetracked. They help reduce the natural tendency to waste time and provide our employees with better guidance on what we expect from them both professionally and personally in the period ahead.
